L&R Consulting Helps Cheshire West with Heritage Investment Planning

L&R Consulting co-led, with Turner and Townsend, a heritage investment strategy seminar for Cheshire West and Chester Council. The seminar looked at the opportunities for project collaboration between partners as they work up schemes for investment support. The event, which was attended by a range of public and charitable sector participants, also provided guidance on the grant priorities of the Heritage Lottery Fund and the process for making successful funding applications.

L&R Consulting Looks at Development Opportunities at Tullie House Museum

L&R Consulting is helping the newly established Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery Trust to prepare a development plan to inform future capital improvements. The work includes the creation of an interpretation strategy and an options appraisal for the future development of a sustainable museum operation. L&R Is working alongside lead consultants Ramboll UK and conservation architects Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams.

Another Milestone for The Carpet Museum Trust in Kidderminster

Work has started on converting Stourvale Mill in Kidderminster to provide a permanent home for The Carpet Museum Trust. L&R Consulting has worked for the Trust for more than a decade to realise its ambitions and is retained as project adviser. With L&R Consulting’s help, the Trust secured a £1.9m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2010.

L&R Consulting Continues Work on Dudley’s Glass Heritage

L&R Consulting is undertaking a further phase of investigations to help Dudley MBC explore the options for its world renowned glass collection in Stourbridge, in the heart of the Black Country. The work follows L&R Consulting’s support for Ruskin Mill Education Trust’s investment in its nearby Glasshouse College site. The Trust secured a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of c. £2m following L&R Consulting’s involvement.

York Minster Revealed Project gets Green Light

The £17m York Minster Revealed project has got the green light from the Heritage Lottery Fund following the completion of an updated business plan prepared by L&R Consulting. The five year project incorporates training in craft skills and education; improved access and interpretation and conservation and restoration of the East Front and the Great East Window.

Bid to Save Hartlebury Castle Seeks L&R Consulting Assistance

Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust has retained L&R Consulting to help it to realise its ambition to acquire the Grade 1 Listed Hartlebury Castle and grounds in Worcestershire. Formerly the residence of the Bishop of Worcester, the property, owned by the Church Commissioners, houses the magnificent and nationally important Hurd Library.

Dudley Zoo Tecton Project Moves Ahead with L&R Consulting Help

With L&R Consulting’s help, Dudley Zoo has obtained a First Round pass with development funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to work up a scheme to repair a group of its iconic reinforced concrete Tecton structures. L&R Consulting Director Peter Middleton is leading the work, which includes proposals for a unique conservation apprentice programme and collaboration with the C20 Society. The Tectons were placed on the World Monument Fund watch list in 2010.

L&R Consulting Advises on Study Looking at the Options for Extending and Updating Chester's Grosvenor Museum

L&R Consulting is working alongside Architects Donald Insall Associates looking at the options to extend and update the historic Grosvenor Museum in Chester. Operated by the Museums Service of Cheshire West and Chester Council, the building presents many opportunities for a greatly improved visitor experience. L&R is advising on the potential to develop retail and catering facilities and improve operational performance, working with local partners Retail Thinking and Chris Morton Associates.

L&R Consulting Develops an Events and Festivals Strategy for Staffordshire

Destination Staffordshire has commissioned L&R Consulting to carry out a review of Events and Festivals across the county. The research study dimension is mapping the range of festivals and events from the Abbot's Bromley Horn Dance to the V Festival at Weston Park, looking at where they fit into the annual calendar, what scale of attendance and impact they have on the county's tourism. This will lead to a development strategy to grow the role and impact of festivals and events, how more could be done to maximise these opportunities, and to develop greater benefits to the Staffordshire visitor economy. We are working alongside a team led by Katie Foster Associates to produce a new Tourism Strategy for the County.

L&R Consulting Wins Business Planning Commission for Historic Piece Hall in Halifax

L&R Consulting has been appointed to prepare the business plan in support of the £16m refurbishment of the Grade 1 Listed Piece Hall in Halifax. Following a successful round one application to the Heritage Lottery Fund, a second round bid is due to be made early in 2012 by the building's owner Calderdale Council. If successful, the Council plans to transform the Piece Hall into a vibrant European-style piazza in keeping with the Hall's 18th Century Italian architecture. A space will also be created to explain the important role that the Hall has played in Yorkshire's history. The Piece Hall will continue to be a destination for shoppers wanting highly individual shops, and hi-tech and creative businesses will use the Piece Hall as a unique location in which to base their companies.
L&R's study partners are Yorkshire-based property consultants Walker Singleton and marketing and events specialists Palmer Squared.
