L&R Consulting advises Dudley Zoo on bid to Refurbish Iconic Tecton structures

L&R Consulting is advising Dudley Zoological Gardens on a Round One HLF application to enable its Listed Tecton concrete animal enclosures, designed by Berthold Lubetkin, to be refurbished and interpreted. Recently added to the World Monument Fund’s ‘Watch List’ the structures are a remarkable counterpoint to Dudley Castle, dating from the 11th- 15th centuries, which crowns the steep hill on which the Zoo is situated.

Northumberland National Park Authority appoints L&R Consulting to Facilitate Workshop on new Wild Landscapes Centre

L&R Consulting is working with Northumberland National Park Authority to refine its vision for a new wild landscapes centre in Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site, incorporating a visitor centre and a new generation Youth Hostel. L&R is facilitating a workshop to clarify the audience appeal for the development. This is a key step to enable the project’s sponsors to progress funding bids and realise this long held proposal.

Heritage Lottery Fund Wins for L&R Consulting in the West Midlands

Two West Midlands projects advised by L&R Consulting have secured grant awards from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). The Carpet Museum Trust scooped £1.9m to enable it to develop a museum devoted to the carpet industry in Kidderminster, co-located with a Morrison’s supermarket. L&R is retained as adviser through to project completion scheduled for 2013.

Meanwhile, Ruskin Mill Education Trust centre in the Glass Quarter, Stourbridge secured an HLF grant of £1.85m following L&R’s work in support of the project’s audience development, learning and business case. The project will enable renovation and interpretation of historic buildings on the college campus for teaching, events and community use.

Ryedale Folk Museum appoints L&R Consulting to Advise on Development Plan

L&R Consulting is advising the award-winning rural life museum in Yorkshire on a phased development plan to accommodate the Harrison Collection. This remarkable collection, of national significance, has become available to the museum and would add a new dimension to the range of exhibitions on offer. L&R is advising on the museum’s business strategy and to support funding bids.

National Heritage Memorial Fund Appoints L&R Consulting as Mentor at Paxton House

Heritage Lottery fund parent the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) has appointed L&R Consulting as business mentor at Paxton House, a historic House near Berwick on Tweed. L&R is helping the trustees to recruit a new Director and support the Trust in seeking new streams of sustainable business.

Lake District National Park Visitor Centre appointment for L&R Consulting

L&R Consulting is part of a team appointed to look at the options for redevelopment of the Lake District National Park’s Visitor Centre at Brockhole, Windermere. The work includes advice on the visitor concept and experience, commercial partner options, phasing, governance and a funding strategy.

L&R Consulting helps East Sussex Museums Improve Business Performance

L&R Consulting is part of a team working with a group of East Sussex museums and galleries to improve their income earning potential and reduce costs. In tough economic times, all of the museums are looking for new ways to generate more revenue. The work will result in practical plans to help them improve their catering, retail and e-commerce activity and marketing performance, with a focus on customer relationship management and new media.

L&R Consulting advises on Shared Services Options for Museums in the North West

Shared services is a growing trend amongst local authority museum services as they look for new ways to improve efficiency as budgets come under ever increasing pressure. L&R has been working for Renaissance North West, MLA North West and the Greater Manchester Museums Forum (GMMF) on studies looking at new models for the delivery of learning services, shared services amongst a consortium of Historic Houses and the cluster represented by GMMF members.

L&R Consulting appointed as Business Plan Adviser for £8m flagship heritage project in Cheshire

L&R Consulting is working with Cheshire West and Chester Council on a flagship heritage visitor attraction: the renovation of the historic Lion Salt Works near Northwich. The project, a BBC Restoration programme finalist, will create a museum, community and learning resource with play, events and informal recreation facilities. L&R is retained through to project completion, scheduled in 2013.

L&R helping to develop new cultural facilities at former heritage glass factory

Ruskin Mill Education Trust has appointed L&R Consulting to help them develop  a Stage Two Heritage Lottery Fund application for the Glasshouse College campus in Stourbridge.  The £3.7m project involves the next stage of a scheme to refurbish a former crystal glass making factory. This will provide additional workspace for craft workers, enhanced student learning, performance and temporary exhibitions space and improved catering and retail facilities.  

L&R will explore market demand and work with the College to refine the business concept and dovetail the funding plan with grant support already received from Advantage West Midlands and Arts Council England.

Developing a Tourism and Visitor Economy Framework for Chester and Cheshire

Visit Chester and Cheshire has appointed L&R Consulting to create a new 10 year tourism framework. The aim is deliver an inspiring vision with clear priorities that is a guide for investment. The framework will provide a fresh and focused direction of travel for tourism in Cheshire & Warrington that is fit for the times. L&R is also developing a three year action plan to kick start the strategy into action. L&R will work closely with tourism champions in Cheshire & Warrington to create a way forward that is commercially focussed and encourages strong business engagement in its delivery.
